In #theweekof we take a look into the lives of professionals in Seed Valley.
Hi everyone, I’m Tim! After my MBO training in Plant Cultivation level 3 at Clusius College (now Vonk) and an internship at Enza Zaden, I now enjoy working as a Process Operator in the Distribution department.
It is a secure air cargo area that may only be entered by trained personnel, which is why everything we ship is also sealed. My tasks are very diverse and every day can be different. The seed is shipped worldwide, so it’s a dynamic environment I work in.
My work revolves around picking and packing packaged seed according to orders. Every day starts with a team meeting, in which we discuss the tasks of the day. I then start collecting deliveries, both for domestic and international shipments.
Picking is a precise job; I scan the deliveries, collect the pre-packed seeds and ensure that everything is counted correctly before I continue. This is followed by packaging and administrative work, such as processing address changes.
Every week we have a Lean meeting to improve our processes. I ship pallets worldwide via various transport methods, such as road transport, air transport and sea freight, which is why we seal all pallet deliveries.
I pick up the pallets with my reach truck and place them on the sealing device, after which they are automatically sealed. I then prepare them for shipping. We keep a list on which the number of pallets, together with the country of destination and the carrier, is noted. When the driver comes to collect it, you can check whether everything is going correctly. Because we work with different carriers, it is important that this is properly sorted.
On Fridays I check all pallets for shipment to countries such as Italy, France and the United Kingdom. And then it’s time for the weekend!
I hope you enjoyed my #weekof edition. I loved giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the Distribution department. If you have also become interested in a position at Enza Zaden, please take a look at the Seed Valley website for all open positions. In Distribution there is a lot of internal contact with other departments, which makes it a great department to grow easily and well within Enza Zaden, partly due to the ABS knowledge (this is an application) that is being built up here.
