In #theweekof, we get to have a look within the workweek of young professionals in Seed Valley.

Wouter is a mechanical engineer at Seed Processing Holland. He designs and improves the standard machines: these machines are in the fixed range. It can always be done better, faster, or cheaper. Cool: Wouter has recently also started working on R&D within engineering. He designs new machines, makes prototypes, and tests them. Check Wouter’s workweek here!

Our company name says it all; we make machines for seed processing companies. That’s why I work with seeds and fresh produce. This way, I can see how the machines work during their daily work. For example, here I am reading the frequency controller in the machine: among other things, this regulates the speed of the motor.

The core of my work: engineering. I design in a program called HiCAD. I think engineering is the heart of our company. Everything is set up from the design. That is quite a puzzle because I have to consider many wishes, both from customers and colleagues.

Convenient: with our 3D printer, I can make all kinds of parts for prototypes or machines. Setting up such a printer seems simple, but you have to take several factors into account, including the speed and temperature of the nozzle. The nozzle is the part where the molten material comes out to build up the piece. If the temperature is too high or too low, the part will not come out of the printer correctly.

Of course, I must demonstrate that the new machine works better than the current one. That is why I collect data from both machines, which I present to my colleagues. When I make some adjustments to the AC drive, the machine’s motor works much more efficiently.

To measure = to know. To reduce the cost of our machines, we are always looking for the best and cheapest way to produce parts. These parts are printed with an SLS 3D printer. But, it is helpful to be sure that the parts fit in the machine.

Take a break from measuring. Chocolate is always a regular for us on Thursdays. That makes working a lot more fun!

Friday - 11:00 am

Friday - 11:00 am

On Friday, I usually talk to my manager about how last week went and what the next week looks like. Nowadays, just from the dining room table (and yes, the cat really wanted to be in the picture).

A little walk with my colleagues before going into the weekend!

Together we contribute to a healthy and flowering world. We’re constantly facing new challenges , and I work on the solutions. What will you do?
